This process is used to create round profiles with precise depths using rigid material. Screws, pins, mold inserts, even pots and pans or aluminum car wheels can be created with this process. CNC turning is a step above manual turning, allowing for a higher level of precision and complexity. It provides flexibility in material with the ability to cut a wide range of metals, woods, and plastics. With CNC turning, we are able to create custom parts and hardware that provide engineers with quick, accurate parts for evaluation. Designs can be modified quickly and easily, speeding up the development process and solidifying data before moving to production.
During the turning process the material spins as the machine cuts round parts and shapes out of the material. Our shop uses one CNC lathe, as well as two manual lathes, to create turned parts. Data is typically created by our engineering department, or client supplied, then output to the machines. Common materials turned are aluminum, steel, and plastics such as ABS and Delrin. Our machines can also work with specialty materials like titanium, ceramics, and foams. CNC machining allows us to hold repeatable tolerances up to 1⁄2 a thousandth (.0005).
